Samsung Phone Not Charging? 9 Causes and How to Fix It
Samsung Galaxy specific — the USB-C port takes more abuse than most.
Galaxy USB-C ports take more abuse than Lightning because the connector is deeper and catches more lint. Work through these nine causes first.
Book a Samsung charging-port diagnostic Most Galaxy USB-C port replacements cost $79–$99.
Common causes
1. Lint in the USB-C port
Shine a flashlight in. Clear any compressed lint with a wooden toothpick. Seven in ten 'not charging' Galaxies at our counter are fixed in this step.
2. A degraded USB-C cable
USB-C cables that feel 'wiggly' in the port are worn out. Swap in a known-good cable (ideally Samsung's 25W or 45W super fast charging cable).
3. Wrong charging brick for fast charging
Samsung fast charging requires PD 3.0 with PPS. A generic PD brick will charge slowly. Use the Samsung 25W or 45W brick with the supplied cable.
4. Battery health
Samsung Members app → Diagnostics → Battery status. If the health indicator is 'Weak' or 'Bad', a replacement is typically $89–$119.
5. Hard restart
Hold Power + Volume Down for 15 seconds. Releases a wedged software state. Works on S, A, Z, Note, and Tab lines.
6. Accessibility → Adaptive Charging stuck
On recent models, Adaptive Charging pauses at 85% for battery longevity. If a green or blue LED is on but percentage is stuck at 85%, that's the cause.
7. Port pins bent or worn
USB-C pins bend more easily than Lightning. If the cable only works at a specific angle or upside-down, the port is the issue. Replacement is ~$79–$99.
8. Liquid damage
If 'Moisture detected' pops up, DON'T ignore it. Unplug, dry the port, then see a tech the same week if it keeps appearing.
9. Charging IC / power management chip
Rare but possible — especially after a bad surge or fall. This is a board-level fix, around $150–$200 at our counter.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Samsung USB-C port repair cost?
$79–$99 for most Galaxy models — same-day when in stock. We diagnose for $49 first and credit that toward the repair if you proceed — or toward a purchase, if you'd rather.
"Moisture detected" warning won't go away — what do I do?
Unplug immediately. Dry the port (gently — no heat). If the warning persists with the cable removed for 24 hours, the corrosion has progressed past the surface. Bring it in for a port inspection; corrosion spreads if left.
My Galaxy fast charges with my old brick but not the new one. Why?
Samsung Super Fast Charging requires PD 3.0 with PPS (Programmable Power Supply). Generic PD bricks deliver standard PD but not PPS, so they cap at slower speeds. Use Samsung's 25W or 45W brick + cable for full speed.
Is the Z Fold / Z Flip charging port the same as a regular Galaxy?
Yes — same USB-C connector, same general design. We replace foldable charging ports too. Slightly more involved repair given the hinge proximity but same pricing range ($89–$99).
My Galaxy Note 10 won't charge — Samsung won't service it anymore. Can you?
Yes. Samsung Canada discontinued service for the Note series — but we still repair every Note (8, 9, 10, 10+, 20, 20 Ultra). Port replacement, battery, board-level repair. See /repair/samsung for details.
